In India, the phrase 'a Parliament of crooks and thieves' is often said as a reference to the government. This is an allusion to how corruption has been a major problem since Indian Independence in 1947. It's getting worse now, as little laws have been passed that allows the natural resources of the country to be taken over by powerful interests. There are a lot of people who believe that this is not just a problem for India right now, but it's also a global issue and one that should concern us all on an individual level too. A parliamentary form of government, which is assumed to be more stable, better equipped to face changes in the political environment, and/or more capable of dealing with issues that are non-obvious to a smaller number of political actors. Also, less prone to being manipulated by corrupt officials.
